    Doi Tung, Mae Fah Luang Garden and the Royal Villa

    In the morning, we will drive to Mae Fah Luang Garden, consisting of flowerbeds planted with a dazzling variety of flowers and shrubs from all corners of the world. Among these are over 70 species of cool climate and temperate ornamentals. Then we will drive to Doi Tung Royal Villa which incorporates architectural elements from northern Thailand and from Switzerland, where Her Royal Highness, the late Princess Mother, lived for many years. Afterwards, we will return to the hotel.

  • Doi Mae Salong

    CEI 2 : HALF DAY TOUR

    Doi Mae Salong, Tea plantation, tea shop and Chinese village

    We will depart from the hotel to Doi Mae Salong to visit a Kuomintang (KMT) Yunnan Chinese settlement in the mountains west of Chiang Rai. En route, we will visit two tribal villages, the Yao and Akha, both of which used to be occupied by opium farmers. Mae Salong in Chiang Rai is very reminiscent of parts of China and much of the area’s history has a strong Chinese connections. When the Communists took over mainland China in 1949, remnants of the Nationalist Chinese army fled to the Thai-Burmese border. In 1961 they were driven into Thailand and some settled down here on Doi Mae Salong Mountain, forming a Yunnanese community right in the heart of the Thai kingdom. Afterwards, we return to the hotel.

  • Wat Phra Singh

    CEI 3 : HALF DAY TOUR

    Local market, Emerald Buddha, Wat Phra Singh, White Temple

    Start to explore the heart of Chiang Rai at the King Meng Rai the Great Monument, take a rickshaw around the downtown area, and visit the biggest market in the city. Proceed to Wat Phra Keaw, the most sacred temple where the famous Emerald Buddha was discovered in 1434 A.D. during the Lanna empire. This was later moved to the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Visit also Wat Phra Singh, built by Pra Chao Maha Proma (P.E. 1345 – 1400), circa 1385 (B.E. 1928). The Ubosoth contains several replicas of the Phra Singh or Phra Buddhasihing image, and is a cultural landmark in the history of the Lanka Wong Theravada Sect of Buddhism in Thailand. Then visit Wat Rong Khun (the “White Temple”) only about 10 km south of Chiang Rai city. It was designed by the national artist Mr. Chalermchai Kositpipat. The main temple building, or Ubosot, is a distinctive white color and decorated with fragments of reflective glass. Then we return to the hotel.

    Chiang Sean, Boat Cruise and Golden Triangle

    It’s a journey of about an hour to the ancient town of Chiang Sean. We visit Wat Chedi Luang, then continue to the Golden Triangle and take a boat trip along Mae Khong River. After that stop at the small Island called “Don Sao” of Laos then we return to the hotel.

    Mae Sai, Border Crossing, Burmese Temples and Wat Thum Pla

    Leave the hotel and travel to Mae Sai, the border town between Thailand and Myanmar. You can cross over to Tachilek market in Myanmar by presenting passports and visa fees at the Mae Sai immigration check point. We then take tricycle taxis around to explore the market, local community, Burmese temples and Sweyagon replicas. On the way we will go to Wat Thum Pla where a hundreds of wild monkeys congregate. Then we return to the hotel.
