Wat Phra Keow
The history of this Buddhist temple located in Chiang Rai is somewhat obscure. The main buddha here, one of the largest in Thailand and made of brass and copper, is about 700 years old. But this temple claims to be the first home of the "Emerald Buddha." Popular legend has it that in 1434, lighting struck the chedi (stupa) cracking it open. Inside was found the "Emerald Bhuddha" that is now housed in the grand palace in Bangkok.
This temple is just a short 10 minute drive from The Legend and should be part of any cruise around town.

The main building of the temple complex is the ubosoth (chapel) that houses the new replacement Emerald Buddha carved in China of Canadian jade in honor of Her Royal Highness Somdej Phrasrinkharintra on the Princess Mother's ninetieth birthday.
