Mae SaiA small town at the Myanmar/Burma border and one of the northern-most points in Thailand, the town is a very common day trip from Chiang Rai and is often part of the "Golden Triangle Loop" that typically starts in Mae Sai, then goes on to Sop Ruak, then to Chiang Saen and then back to Chiang Rai. Distance from Chiang Rai is 62 kms. The population is mostly ethnic Chinese. Near Mae SaiThe town on the Burma-side of the river is Tachilek.
